Student life

As a University of Leicester student, you’ll also be part of the City of Leicester. From fascinating history and culture to a smart, contemporary feel, the city has so much to offer, and is the best place to live and work in the East Midlands (Demos-PwC Good Growth Index 2023).

You'll never be bored with so many places to grab a bite to eat and activities to get stuck into. Fancy a little crazy golf? Enjoy a night out at over-18 golf spot, Caddyshackers, or enjoy a jungle themed putting session at Treetop Adventure Golf. Climb up the walls at Leicester's bouldering centre, Social Climbing, or knock down some bowling pins at East Street Lanes and Lane7. From board game cafes to trampolining parks and escape rooms, find it all within Leicester city centre.

Did you know? The Guardian named Leicester Comedy Festival in their Top 5 Comedy Festivals in the world. It takes place every February with over 800 shows across the city.

What's it like to live in East Midlands?
Check out our region guide

The East Midlands comprises five counties, with its main cities being Derby, Leicester, Lincoln and Nottingham.

The region has plenty of history, boasting both the world’s first factory and its first pub (allegedly). It also has many castles, cathedrals and stately homes, including Chatsworth House, which has served as the backdrop to period films like Jane Eyre and Pride and Prejudice.

And, of course, you’ll find the gorgeous Peak District here. If you end up studying in the East Midlands, definitely make a trip to explore its rolling green hills, peatlands, and quaint market towns – like Buxton, the caverns of Castleton, and Bakewell (home of the famous tart).
